On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at approximately 6:49 p.m. M-LFD Company 5 was dispatched to a reported brush fire in the rear of 12 IU Willets Road. Upon the arrival of E8758 a large rubbish fire was located at the demolition site of a former large private dwelling. The crew of E8758 immediately stretched a hose line and began extinguishing the fire, and requested that E8756 respond and use an entrance on the west side of the large piece of property. Due to the volume of fire spread across a large area which was difficult to access, M-LFD Companies 1, 2, 3, and the Ambulance Unit were all requested to respond to the scene. M-LFD Company 4 was placed on standby for all calls within the district.
Crews operated multiple handlines as well as the deck gun from E8711 and portable master stream for E8756 to extinguish the fire. Additionally, the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office responded with their rehab unit, Investigations Division and Hazardous Materials Division to assist M-LFD crews at the scene. All units were released from the scene by Chief of Department Kiess shortly after 11 p.m.
