M-LFD Responds to Fully Involved Truck Fire

On September 24, 2023 M-LFD Companies 2, 3 and 5 were dispatched to the westbound Long Island Expressway between Shelter Rock Road and New Hyde Park Rd for a reported truck fire. While in route, crews were advised that NCPD Highway Patrol was on scene confirming a fully involved trailer containing tires, and the location was in the vicinity of Searingtown Road.

Due to the volume of fire, and the limited amount of hydrants in the area, crews had to stretch supply lines from Wills Avenue and Searingtown Road to supply multiple master streams and extinguish the fire. The Roslyn Rescue and Roslyn Highlands Fire Companies also responded to the scene and assisted with extinguishment.

The LIE was closed in both directions for a time while the fire was being extinguished.  The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office Hazardous Materials Division Responded to the scene along with the NYS Department of Transportation who assisted with overhaul by utilizing their payloader.
