On May 18, 2016, at 1:25 p.m., M-LFD Companies 3, 5, and the Ambulance unit were toned out for an overturned truck with possible entrapment on the West bound LIE between New Hyde Park Rd., and Community Drive. Ex-Captain Chen was first on scene and advised there was an overturned construction truck on the center median, negative entrapment but an active fuel leak. Deputy Chiefs Stone and Gobbo were on scene moments later as was Rescue 8730 and Squad 8759. The driver of the truck was transported to NSUH by NCPD EAB. The crews of 8730 & 8759 were able to slow the fuel leak and dyke a storm drain to prevent the runoff from going in. There was a small fire in the cab area which was quickly extinguished by the crew of 8759, and Nassau County Hazmat was called for a diesel fuel and hydraulic oil spill. New York State DOT was also requested for a sander and pay-loader to sand the roadway and pick up the full load of blue stone that was spilled on the eastbound side. Deputy Chief Mazurkiewicz, HR8730, and Ambulance 8767 were relocated from the scene to another MVA at Northern Blvd. and Pickwick Road. All units were released from the LIE at 2:20 p.m., except Deputy Chief Gobbo and E8735 who remained on scene by while the truck was righted.
