On Thursday, February 17 at approximately 12:46 a.m., all six M-LFD Companies were alerted to the new Advanced Surgical Pavilion at North Shore University Hospital for a reported fire on the first floor. Deputy Chief Weisburd (8702) was the first to respond and was advised that the Nassau County Police Department and Port Washington F.D. Ambulance were on scene reporting a working fire. DC8702 transmitted a "Signal 10" and arrived on scene to find fire and smoke showing from the first floor of new building which was under construction. TL8744 was the first piece of apparatus to arrive on scene and gained access to the large construction site to locate the fire. E8712 was the first engine to arrive on scene and immediately stretched a hose line to begin to extinguish the fire.

Ultimately, the fire reached five alarms with numerous handlines being stretched into the structure with mutual aid from numerous surrounding fire departments at the scene.
