The Officer’s and Men of Company #2 M-L.F.D. regret to announce the passing of Charles Karen.  Chuck joined Company #2 on August 8th, 1991. Throughout Chuck’s 24 years of service he was involved in many committees in the firehouse and was also a department driver.  Chuck was also a New York City Police Officer working in East New York, Brooklyn, for his entire career.  Chuck was a devoted father to two young boys Charles (9) and Dominic (4).  He was also a loving husband to his wife of many years Tina.  Chuck responded to the attacks on September 11 2001, with the NYPD and worked tirelessly for months not only at ground zero but also spent a lot of time at the Fresh Kills dump sifting through the wreckage.  Because of his courageous actions, Chuck found out 3 years ago he had cancer.  Although it was a tough battle, Chuck never gave up his fight, and he never gave up for only one reason….his family.  Unfortunately on Wednesday November 4th Chuck lost his fight.  Anyone that knew Chuck would tell you he would always go out of his way to help others.  He will surely be missed around the corners of the firehouse.  A website has been set up in Chuck’s honor accepting donations for his family, to ensure no bills go unpaid and the kids have a college fund set up.  Click Here to Support the Karen Family
